Every business owner using AI right now is paying for at least one of these three tools. Some are paying for all three. The question everyone is asking — but nobody seems to answer honestly — is: which one is actually worth it?

We spent two weeks running ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, and Gemini Advanced through 8 real business scenarios. Not toy tasks. Real work: writing a sales email sequence, analysing a competitor's pricing strategy, summarising a 40-page contract, handling a customer complaint, and five more. Here's everything we found.

⚡ Quick Answer

For most business owners: Claude wins for writing and analysis, ChatGPT wins for versatility, Gemini wins if you're deep in Google Workspace. But the full picture is more nuanced — keep reading.

The Detailed Breakdown

ChatGPT Plus — The Swiss Army Knife

ChatGPT is still the most capable all-rounder. Its Code Interpreter feature is unmatched — upload a CSV of your sales data and it will analyse, chart, and summarise it in seconds. No other AI does this as well. For businesses that need both writing and technical capabilities, ChatGPT remains the default choice.

Where it falls short: the writing can feel slightly templated. It follows patterns. If you need copy that sounds like a human wrote it on a good day — not a competent machine — Claude edges ahead.

"ChatGPT is the tool you reach for when you don't know what you need. Claude is the tool you reach for when you know you need great writing."

Claude Pro — The Writer's AI

Claude produced the best marketing copy, the best customer service replies, and the best long-document summaries in our tests. What sets it apart is context retention — it remembers what you told it earlier in the conversation and applies it consistently. Its 200,000 token context window means it can read your entire business plan, your competitor's website, and your brand guidelines in a single conversation.

The limitation: no image generation (ChatGPT has DALL-E built in), and its coding output, while excellent, is slightly behind ChatGPT's Code Interpreter for data analysis tasks.

Gemini Advanced — The Google Native

Gemini's strongest card is its real-time Google integration. It searches the web natively, pulls current data, and integrates directly with Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. If your business runs on Google Workspace, Gemini has a use case no other AI can match.

Outside of Google's ecosystem, it trails both competitors on writing quality and reasoning depth. We wouldn't recommend paying for Gemini Advanced unless you're a heavy Google Workspace user — the free tier is sufficient for most tasks it does well.

Which One Should You Pay For?

🎯 Chief Recommendation

Start with Claude Pro if you do a lot of writing, proposals, and client communication. Add ChatGPT Plus if you need data analysis or coding. Only pay for Gemini Advanced if Google Workspace is your primary business tool. Most businesses only need one — pick based on your most common task.

If you're currently paying for all three — stop. Pick the one that matches your primary use case. The overlap between them is significant enough that paying for multiples is rarely justified unless you're running an agency or doing diverse technical work daily.

All three have free tiers that are genuinely useful for light use. If you're just starting with AI, begin with the free versions of all three, identify which one you reach for most, and pay for that one.
